Hello Everyone,
I'm Ann, and this is my journey with thyroid cancer. I hope you're enjoying a wonderful day. Sorry I haven't updated you recently, but I've been really busy working on my Lifestyle Medicine Coaching Certificate through Hippocrates. I am just about done with the class and, while I have enjoyed every minute of it, I will be glad when the hard part is over and I can continue to help myself as well as others. The class has been very informative and eye opening. I will tell you a bit about it.
The Hippocrates Lifestyle
The first thing you need to know about Hippocrates is it is based on a raw food, living, plant based diet. As part of this diet, juicing wheat grass and sprouts should become a daily routine. Additionally, sprouts are also supposed to be eaten on salads. The diet consists of a lot of nuts, grains, and especially greens. No sugar or processed foods are allowed (no surprise there) and, of course, all of the food should be organic. One surprise I found was, if you have cancer, you should not eat fruit! The reason for this is the sugar content in it. According to the Hippocrates philosophy, it is best to have no sugar at all. The only sweetener that is allowed is Stevia.
Food is just one aspect of Hippocrates. There is a whole lifestyle change that goes along with the diet. Exercise and a healthy mindset are key. Daily meditation, spiritualness, exercise, as well as healthy eating are definitely strong pieces of the lifestyle, but so is emotional health, deep breathing, and commitment to yourself. One other part of the lifestyle is fasting. Hippocrates believe strongly in fasting one day per week. The program tells you right from the start that they can't cure you, but they can give you the tools you need to help yourself.
What's Next
At this point in time, I have finished the class, but am still in the process of reviewing the information and taking really good notes. Although parts of this lifestyle might seem to be difficult, I think it's worth a try. One of my personal philosophies is: If it doesn't hurt and might help, why not? So, I plan on trying the Hippocrates Lifestyle and will give you an update soon.
If you have any questions you would like to ask about Hippocrates, please state them below. I would love to know what you think. For now, I wish you all health and happiness!
