Good Afternoon Everyone,
I hope the spring season finds you all happy and looking forward to warmer weather! I'm Ann and this is my journey with thyroid cancer.
I haven't posted anything recently because I haven't been trying anything new. However, I stumbled on a man named Dr. Valter Longo and became fascinated with his talks. He is a longevity expert & fasting is part of what he believes is the key to a long life. His theory is, when you fast you kill off unnecessary cells, like cancer cells. Then when you go back to eating regularly you rebuild new, healthy cells. There's more to it, but that's the quick version,
According to him and many other people I watched (I watch some kind of video daily) water fasting is the best. Next would be a juice fast, and lastly - in my opinion, would be the 'Fasting Mimicking Diet'. This is the diet created by Dr. Longo. I bought his book, but decided to try the juice fast first - mostly because I'm still reading the book. It seemed like the best option at the time. One reason I did this was because when doing a water fast you should be under a doctor's care. I started the juice fast on Sunday and - Well, I lasted for 2 days! Yesterday morning I woke up and was really dizzy and nauseous and I had a terrible headache, which were expected side effects of the fast. But the thing that stopped me from continuing was how my heart was pounding. I take levothyroxine due to the thyroidectomy I had and this already could effect my heart. It made me scared and I decided to stop fasting immediately. I am going to revisit the Fasting Mimicking Diet and will write a post after I've tried it. I will share a link below about Valter Longo. It is an interview by Chris Beat Cancer. I hope you find it informative.
For now, wishing you all health and happiness!
